A Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) mobile court has failed to enter the residence of Health Minister Zahid Maleque for inspection during an anti-mosquito drive.
The mobile court team faced resistance when they went to inspect the minister’s house at Baridhara Park Road in the capital on Tuesday, said Executive Magistrate of the DNCC Mobile Court Nahid Ahsan.
“The minister was not at home during the drive and those on duty failed to reach him over the phone thus the mobile court team had to leave after,” Nahid added.
Local Councilor Jakir Hossain Babul was also present when the drive was taking place.
The DNCC team faced resistance two days after Mayor Atiqul Islam, on August 25, said legal action will be taken against those who do not cooperate with the anti-mosquito drive teams. “Legal action will be taken in line with the laws if owners, caretakers or security guards of any house or organization do not cooperate during the ongoing combing drive to wipe out Aedes mosquitoes in the 36 Wards of DNCC,” said DNCC Mayor Atiqul Islam on Sunday.
“The drives are being hampered as DNCC workers are not being allowed to enter many houses, or their time is being wasted on different excuses,” he added.
When asked, Health Minister’s Personal Assistant (PA) Md Faruque Ahmed said, “As the honourable minister was not present at the house, I didn’t allow the DNCC mobile court without his permission.”
On August 20, the DNCC launched a ‘combing operation’ to kill the Aedes mosquitoes, bearers of deadly diseases such as dengue fever.
