UNB, Dhaka :
State Minister for Post and Telecommunications Tarana Halim on Wednesday said the Mobile Number Portability System (MNPS) will be launched by March 2016 in the country, with a view to enhancing the standard of service provided by the mobile phone operators.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has already given her consent to the MNPS Licensing Guideline, Tarana said.
The minister came up with the statement while talking to reporters at a press briefing at the secretariat.
Tarana said, the guideline was sent to the Finance Department for approval, after which BTRC will be given instructions to take further steps.
The MNPS license will be given to a company for 15 years, she added. Those companies that have at least three years’ experience providing MNPS service in more than one country will be allowed to take part in the auction while any mobile operator, owner, director, partner, investor, or shareholder who has a Bangladeshi license will be considered as ineligible, the minister said.
The selected company has to pay Tk 20 lakh as license fee per year and from 2nd year the company has to pay 5.5% revenue share. On the other hand, a customer can enjoy the offer at a maximum cost of Tk 30.
