11th National Parliamentary election: MM Shaheen to give top priority to nat’l interest

Grand Alliance candidate for Moulbvibazar -2 seat and `Thikana Group Chairman MM Shaheen urged the media recently to give top priority to national interest in presenting news and views, and remain accountable to the people and the country.
“The media now enjoy full freedom of expression here . . . He said responsibility of both the print and electronic media is extensive in flourishing country’s hard-earned democracy and ensuring human rights. Hoping that the media people would pinpoint the government’s missteps, the president said constructive criticism can help the government take right decision.
“Mass media and democracy are inter-related. Human rights could not be established without democracy. The mass media expands when democracy flourishes in a country,” Shaheen observed terming the mass media the fourth pillar of a state. He appreciated the media for its role in exploring the unknown history of the Liberation War and preserving its memories.
He recalled Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and other martyrs who sacrificed their lives in the 1971 Liberation War and other democratic movements.
Senior journalist Shusil Shengupta presided over the programme. Among others, journalist M.
