Staff Reporter :
BNP standing committee member and former minister MK Anwar has been released on bail from the jail.
The 86-year-old leader was freed from the prison cell of the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) on Friday afternoon following a High Court order. He was released nearly six months after his arrest.
Family members said that, although MK Anwar was freed from the prison cell, he was undergoing treatment at the BSMMU for his various health complications. He was taken to
the BSMMU early January this year after he fell sick in jail.
The High Court on January 14 granted six-month interim-bail to MK Anwar in two vandalism and arson cases filed with Bhatara and Wari police stations in the city, paving the way for him to walk out of jail.
On August 18 last year, a Comilla court sent the BNP leader to jail rejecting his bail petition in a case filed for petrol bomb attack on a bus in Chouddagram upazila of the district on February 3 in 2015.
Later, he was also shown arrested in some other cases filed in connection with violence during the BNP-led alliance movement last year.
