Mohammad Ashraful’s century went in vain as Brothers Union Club managed an emphatic six-wicket victory over Kalabagan Krira Chakra in the second relegation league match of Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League on Sunday.
Chasing a winning target of 253 set by Kalabagan, Brothers Union Club reached home for the loss of four wickets with 33 balls to spare.
Thanks to opener Mizanur Rahman for his brilliant 104-ball off 115-run that helped Brothers not only secure their victory but also keep their hope alive to stay in the super league race. Mizanur smashed 11 boundaries and two over boundaries. Yasir Ali and Nazmus Sadat completed the chase for Brothers’
to remain unbeaten with 45 and 32 runs respectively.
Jaimul Hasan was the most successful bowler for Kalabagan as he grabbed three Brothers’ wickets conceding 47 runs.
Earlier, relegated Kalabagan Krira Chakra, riding on Mohammad Ashraful’s magnificent unbeaten ton and also hat-trick century in the league, scored a competitive total of 252 for 3 from their allotted 50 overs, after they opted to bat first.
The former national skipper Ashraful scored 102 runs off 137 balls laced with 10 boundaries and during the process he shared 116-run second wicket stand with opener Waliul Karim, who chipped in with 79 runs. Munim Shahriar (35) and Farque Hossain (28) were the other notable scorers for Kalabagan.
Sohrawordy Shovo was the pick of Brothers Union bowler as he claimed two Kalabagan’s wickets for 53 runs.
Mizanur Rahman of Brothers Union was named the player of the match for his match-winning innings.
