It was a mixed bag of fortune for Bangladesh football whereas success are concerned as our booters managed to stamped their presence with some international laurels.
Apart from failure of Bangladesh senior team’s drubbing in the ongoing SAFF title in India, the sU-16 Bangladesh made the national proud by clinching their first-ever title in the 3rd edition title of the six-nation South Asian Football Federation (SAFF) U-16 Championship dethroning India by 4-2 goals in tie breaker at the Sylhet Stadium held in August this year.
It was a really a magnificent achievement for the boys, who bagged the prestigious title for the country and their achievement will be remembered by the football fans for a long time.
The country’s football saw another history being made in October as local club Chittagong Abahani won the title of inaugural Sheikh Kamal International Club Cup in a pulsating grand final beating Kolkata giant East Bengal by 3-1 at the MA Aziz Stadium in Chittagong.
Well where our boys and men were doing their jobs, our female booters did not lag far behind, Bangladesh’s under 14 eve soccer team did a excellent job winning the crown of AFC Under-14 Girls’ Regional Championship after downing the defending champions Nepal held at the Army Physical Training center in Kathmandu in December.
Thanks to promising striker Marzia who enabled Bangladesh to bagged the title. Marzia is one of the 10 students from the Kalasindhur School, also hails from the village of Kalasindhur.
Her all-important goal enabled Bangladesh to emerge as the first ever champions in any level of Bangladesh women’s football. The country’s football fans saw another unsuccessful tournament of national football team which failed to qualify in the semifinals of the ongoing SAFF Football losing both their group matches although Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF) changes two coaches for the national team in a hope to expect better performance in international level.
In November, BFF sacked Italian head coach of Bangladesh national football team Fabio Lopez and decided to appoint Maruful Haque as the interim coach who was also proved to be unsuccessful coach in his very first international assignment of ongoing SAFF Championship.
