A record opening partnership of Mohammad Mithun and Mizanur Rahman put Walton Central Zone on top against BCB North Zone in the first round game of Bangladesh Cricket League (BCL) at Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chattogram on Monday.
Mithun and Mizanur put on 327-run opening stand, the third best partnership for Bangladesh in the first class cricket as Central Zone ended the second day on 430-2.
At stumps, their lead grew to a staggering 211 runs as North Zone were wrapped up for 219 in its first innings.
Both Mizanur and Mithun squandered the chance to hit a double century in the process. Mizanur was dismissed on 162 by Naeem Islam, putting an end to the epic partnership. He struck 21 fours and three sixes in the knock for which he played 243 balls.
Mithun was the second batter to go, after blasting 176 off 257 that studded with 21 fours and two sixes. Resuming the day on 61 for no loss, they had the chance to break the highest opening partnership record, which was 350 by Abdul Mazid and Rony Talukdar for Dhaka Division in 2018.
Mizanur was the part of second highest opening partnership as he and Najmul Hossain Shanto shared 341-run for Rajshahi Division in 2017.
At the end of the day, Salman Hossan and Soumya Sarkar were batting on 40 and 39 runs respectively as Central Zone is eyeing a big lead.
