Dreams for higher studies of many a student in their choosing subjects will grip in the bud as the authorities of Dhaka University have made the entire admission test hardest and impractical.
Seat is limited, but the number of examinees against each seat is too high in the admission test.
There is widespread allegation that the DU authorities had arranged the hardest and most impractical admission test this year for the examinees of ‘Ka’ Unit that held on September 12.
Several examinees said that they had to face a number of hard decimal sums in mathematics where timeframe was very tight.
The questions of mathematics and science were so hard that it was not possible to answer those questions within the stipulated timeframe by the students without using any calculator.
Although the students were allowed to use calculators last year, the facilities were withdrawn this year.
There were also complicated questions on some formulas in physics. In each case, it needs huge time get accurate answer manually. But they did not get sufficient time, the examinees said.
Some guardians said the competition in DU admission test is usually very hard. It is also considered that DU admission test is the harder one than any other varsity admission tests in the country.
But this year it had crossed all limit, they said, adding that the examinees in an average had got only one minute and three seconds to answer a single question. They had to answer questions in four separate subjects.
If it takes five minutes to read the questions of a single subject, the examinees need at least 20 minutes to complete the reading of question paper.
In that case, they won’t get even one minute to answer a question. In fact, it was too tough for an examinee to answer a total of 120 questions in 90 minutes.
It is learnt that the number of questions was increased this year by adding 20 questions while the time was curtailed by 15 minutes.
“A total of 80,442 admission seekers sat for honours 1st-year admission test of DU ‘Ka’ Unit [Science Faculty] on Friday. About 80,442 candidates vied for a total of 1,640 seats for the group,” DU acting Proctor Prof AM Amjad said.
