A missing schoolgirl was found dead in a paddy field at Baherchar village in sadar upazila on Saturday evening.
The deceased was identified as Arma Begum, 10, daughter of Motaleb Miah, a resident of the village and a class IV student of a local primary school.
Police said Arma had gone missing on Friday while she was going to her aunt’s house with her cousin Masum Miah.
Later on Saturday evening locals spotted her body lying in a paddy field and informed police.
Police recovered the body and sent it to sadar hospital morgue.
The body bore several injury marks.
Police suspected that she might have been violated before killing.
Masum went into hiding after the incident.
