Police in Dhaka have recovered the body of a seventh grader from a ditch at Sabujbagh area.
Thirteen-year-old Md Sayem, who went to the Bashabo branch of Motijheel Model School, had been missing since Wednesday afternoon. The family filed a complaint with the local police the same day.
“Sayem’s body was found floating on the ditch on Thursday early morning. The body had no injury marks,” said
Sabujbagh police OC Abdul Quddus Fakir. Police said they suspect that the boy had died by drowning.
Khilgaon Zone Senior Assistant Police Commissioner Nur-E-Alam told bdnews24.com that Sayem’s bicycle, which he was riding on Wednesday, was found at the ground floor of the building he lived.
“The ditch is only 200 yards away from there.” Quoting the family, he said Sayem didn’t know to swim. “We suspect he went there to wash his feet as his trousers were found folded up. He might have slipped.”
