Missing RUET student Shohag rescued in Ctg

Staff Reporter :M Saifuzzaman Shohag, a student of RUET, who was abducted from his residence at Terokhada in Rajshahi city on December 10, has been rescued blindfolded from a hotel at Mirsarai in Chittagong city.”The kidnappers released me blindfolded at Mirsarai in Chittagong city early Wednesday. I am now staying at Mirsarai. Please take me away from here immediately,” quoting the victim, his father-in-law Rezaur Rahman told journalists.The victim’s father-in-law said that as soon as the kidnappers freed Shohag and left the scene, he requested the local people to support him with a cell phone so that he could inform his relatives about his whereabouts. “I asked one of our relatives, who lives in Chittagong to meet Shohag immediately in Chittagong in order to bring him to capital Dhaka. On the other hand, I, Shohag’s father Akkas-uz-Zaman and investigation officer of the case Mahbubur Rahman left Rajshahi for Dhaka in the morning,” said Rezaur Rahman.A gang of nine miscreants introducing themselves as the members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) forcibly entered their house around 3am on December 10 and picked up Shohag.Shohag, a fourth year student of Mechanical Engineering Department of Rajshahi University of Engineering and Technology, is also an Information and Research Secretary of the RUET unit of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL).When contacted, Mahmudur Rahman, Officer-in-Charge of Rajpara Police Station of Rajshahi city said Shohag, his father, father-in-law and other relatives were on the way to Rajshahi.”As Shohag is mentally upset and sick, he will not be interrogated right now to know about the kidnappers. When he will recover and be able to talk to us, we will then quiz him,” he said. Victim’s father Akkas-uz-Zaman expressed his gratefulness to the Almighty Allah and thanked the journalists and law enforcers for getting back his son.  On that day at about 3am, after entering the house, the gang directly went to the room of Shohag on the 2nd floor. They searched the laptop of Shohag and picked him up and went away with the laptop and a camera. Shohag’s father Akkas-uz-Zaman went to the Rajpara Police Station and the nearest RAB office that very day to know about the detention.But the elite force and police denied the detention of the BCL leader. On December 13, he filed a case with Rajpara Police Station in this connection accusing 20 people including, Shohag’s classmate Nabila and the members of RAB and detective branch of police. On December 20, police arrested former RUET student Farzadul Islam Miron, 28, son of Abdul Awal Khan from Faizabad area under Dakkhinkhan police station in capital Dhaka and a second year student of the Civil Engineering of the university, Esfaq Yasif Epu, 21, son of Shawkat Ali from Naodapara area in Rajshahi.
