The body of a five-year-old girl was recovered from neighbourhood septic tank four hours after she went missing at Dholaipar in Jatrabari of the city on Sunday night.
The deceased was identified as Farjana, 5, daughter of Md Sohel of the area.
Victim’s uncle Md Rubel said Farjana went out to play in the afternoon and did not return, raising the alarm in her family, who resorted to a loudspeaker to conduct ‘miking’ in the area to try and find her.
Locals spotted the girl’s body in an open septic tank of a house in the area and informed them.
Afterward, she was taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital where doctors declared her dead around 9pm, said DMCH police camp in-charge Inspector Bachchu Mia.
The family believe Farjana was killed by someone and dumped in the septic tank. She did not drown in the tank and it is not a natural death, claimed Rubel.
