With the help of journalists, Golapi of Joypurhat was rescued from Baraigram in Natore nine months after she went missing. Golapi was handed over to her family by the President and General Secretary of Baraigram Model Press Club, Selim Master and others on 25th June. Mentally handicapped Golapi is the daughter of Abdul Mannan of Kashipur village in Kalai upazila of Jaipur Hat and wife of Mahabub Ali of Biala village in the same upazila.
Lipi Khatun, wife of Selim Master of Agran village, saw a 29/30-year-old, helpless girl lying in the mud on June 17, on the Bonpara-Hatikumrul Highway in the Agran Community Clinic area, wearing worn-out, sick and muddy wet clothes. He did not get any answer by asking the name and address of the girl. She then informed the journalists on his mobile phone. Receiving the news, Baraigram Model Press Club President Sheikh Tofazzal Hossain and General Secretary Saifur Rahman went to the spot and informed the matter to Natore Superintendent of Police Liton Kumar Saha and Officer-in-Charge of Baraigram Police Station Abu Siddique. Later, Golapi was kept in custody at Selim Master’s house and was given medicine on the advice of a doctor to restore her health.
