Body of the foreign ship captain who went missing after slipping into the Karnaphuli River on Monday night was recovered from under a jetty of the port on Wednesday.
Security personnel of the port authorities spotted the body under the jetty of CCT-3 in the morning and later recovered it around 9:30 am, said Omar Faruk, secretary of the Chattogram Port Authority.
The victim Markopoulos Vasileios, 57, captain of Cyprus-flag carrier MV Evinia, went missing after slipping into the Karnaphuli River from his vessel docked in the port jetty on Monday night.
Lt Col Md Abdul Gaffar, director (security) of Chattogram Port, said the vessel anchored in the port on Monday afternoon with steel pipes and tools from China.
Meanwhile, the body was kept at mortuary of Chittagong Medical College Hospital. He slipped from a rope ladder as he was checking the vessel’s draught at Jetty no 7 at the port around 8:00pm, Lt Col Gaffar said.
