Missing DU student Kanak found in city’s Panthapath

Missing Dhaka University student Azizul Haq Khan Kanak was found in an injured condition in the capital’s Panthapath on Thursday morning.
Kanak, a first year student of the Finance Department and resident of Zia Hall, also an activist of Ganajagoran Manch and central leader Bangladesh Chhatra Union, mysteriously disappeared from the Fular Road on Wednesday. He maintained a very good link with Dr. Imran H Sarkar, former spokesman, after split.
Kanak’s brother-in-law Sohel Parvez said that a tea hawker phoned him
at about 10:00am and asked whether he was Kanak’s brother or not. They also told him that Kanak was lying unconsciously on a bench in the Panthapath area.
Sohel along with Shahbagh thana police rushed to the spot and rescued him. He marked injuries in his head and bloodstains were found on his cloth.
Although, a city scan was done, the type of injuries could not be known yet. Kanak has been taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH).
Quoting Kanak, Sohel said, some five to seven well-dressed young men picked him up. They blindfolded him and took him somewhere he could not tell. They stabbed him with knife and clubbed him. Later, they left him there, he said.
Kanak said that he was heading towards his sister’s house after teaching his student. A gang of miscreants standing beside a shop passed comments at him and called him an atheist while he was on the Fular Road. He said, one of them approached and asked him irrelevant questions.
They left him at Panthapath on Wednesday night from where he was later recovered.
Kazi Shariful Islam, Officer-in-Charge of Shahbagh Police Station, said, police force along with Sohel rescued him at 10:30am from the spot.
Kanak reportedly went missing from Fuller Road of Dhaka University campus on Tuesday evening. The reason behind his disappearance could not be known immediately.
