A teenage boy was found murdered in a sack in a canal behind Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chittagong city’s Sagorika area on Sunday four days after he had gone missing.
Firoz Ali Badhan, 15, son of Ramjan Ali of the city’s Dakkhin Kattoli, was an eighth-grader.
He had been missing since he left house on May 4 after receiving a cellphone call, said police. The following day, the family filed a general diary (GD) with Pahartoli Police Station.
An unknown caller demanded Tk 2 lakh as ransom from the victim’s family through mobile on May 6, police added.
Officer-in-Charge Ranajit Kumar Barua said yesterday they arrested Badhan’s cousin Hridoy Mallik, 22, who lived with the family.
The information gleaned from Hridoy, police recovered the body stuffed in the sack in the waterbody, said Addition Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Nazmul Hasan of the Detective Branch (DB) of Chittagong Metropolitan Police.
On primary interrogation, the arrestee admitted that he strangled Badhan after feeding him sedatives, he said.
Personal or family feud might have led to the murder, the ADC said, adding they were investigating the incident.
