Agrani Bank Senior Officer Nazrul Islam, who allegedly went missing on his way to Uttarkhan from city’s Jatrabari area, could not be traced yet even after two and a half months despite efforts by the law enforcing agencies.
Sources said Nazrul, a Senior Officer of Agrani Bank’s Motijheel B-Wapada Branch, left his rented house at Shanir Akhra of Jatrabari on
January 7 on way to his own residence at Uttarkhan to collect rent from tenants, but didn’t return.
According to family sources, Nazrul was also a brother-in-law of an additional IGP of police.
On January 9, Rubina Nazrul, wife of the missing banker, filed a General Diary (GD) with both Uttarkhan and Jatrabari police stations.
When contacted, Abdul Majid, Officer-in-Charge of Uttarkhan Police Station, told The New Nation that they were working to trace banker Nazrul Islam.
Not only police, all forces of law enforcing agencies have already begun investigation into the incident.
“We talked to his colleagues of the banker. His colleagues said Nazrul is a man having smiled always. The keys of the branch locker were in his possession. He did not give the keys to anybody. But one day before going missing, he gave the keys to a colleague, the OC said.
We scrutinised CCTV footage from Shanirakhra at Jatrabari to Helal Market at Uttarkhan. But his presence was not found in the footage. His mobile call lists were also checked, but nothing was found. His mobile phone sets remained off. His last location was found at Shanirakhra. None even demanded ransom from his family members, the OC further added.
Victim’s wife Rubina said that her husband used two mobile phone sets. That day, he took one with him.
She said her husband dealt in land business in Uttarkhan and Turag areas alongside his government job. He had no enmity with anyone, Rubina said.
Sources said Nazrul took a loan of Tk 68 lakh from the bank.
The members of Rapid Action Battalion, Police Bureau of Investigation and Detective Branch are looking into the missing matter.
Besides, Uttarkhan police sent a letter to immigration police to know if the victim has left the country.
The Nazrul-Rubina couple has two sons. The elder son is a student of Dhaka University while the younger son is a student of Patuakhali Medical College. Nazrul hails from Betagi in Barguna.
