On the fourth day of ticket sale ahead of the Eid-ul-Azha, the air inside Dhaka’s Kamalapur Railway Station has become heavy with manifold complaints made by masses.
Like the previous three days, many chose to wait for as long as 24 hours to avail a ticket to reach their desired destinations prior the second largest religious festival of Muslims in the country.
Some even fell sick after standing in queues for long hours amid intense heat. Harun-ur-Rashid had been waiting in front of the counter since Wednesday afternoon to avail the ticket for Sep 10.
He fainted twice in the meantime but managed to stand up again after people around him helped him out.
“It feels extremely hot and there’s no wind passing. I could not bring water from inside the station as the collapsible gate was locked out at night,” said Harun. Tickets for Sep 10 were put up on sale from 8am at the Kamalapur Railway Station on Thursday. Md Saiful Islam, who runs his poultry business in Mirpur, was vexed after getting his ticket as it was for a seat near toilet inside the train.
“I was awake all night for a ticket. I told them to change my ticket but they refused,” he toldbdnews24.com.
Female customers expressed anger over the fact that only one counter was in operation for them which made the process slower. Within an hour of starting the sale, the authorities announced that all tickets for Padma Express and Dhumketu Express were sold out. Rasel Mahmud, an employee of a pharmaceutical company, did not get any ticket for seat in air conditioned compartment despite being eighth in the serial.
He questioned the transparency of the authority. “There are three trains for Rajshahi. There is no chance of all AC tickets being sold even if all the customers who were in serial before me had bought AC tickets.”
In the wake of such claims, Kamalapur Railway Station Manager Shitangshu Chakrabarty told bdnews24.com that it was not possible to allocate AC tickets for all as their resources were limited.
“Those who come early buy tickets for air conditioned compartments. But tickets to other normal compartments are still available. I hope everyone will get a ticket,” he said.
Employee of a life insurance company ‘Yasin’ got his ticket after spending as long as 25 hours at the station since Wednesday 7am. He said that he felt accomplished after availing the ticket.
Bangladesh may celebrate the Eid-ul-Azha on Sep 12 or 13, depending on the sighting of the moon.
After the Eid, people will be able to buy the advance return tickets at all major railway stations.
Tickets for Sep 14, 15, 16, 17 and 18 will be available on Sep 5, 6, 7, 8 and 9, respectively.
