The city life almost paralysed over e one day’s incessant torrential rain in port city as elsewhere in the district and the adjoining three hill district and Cox’s Bazar on Monday night.
Patenga met office recorded 252 mm rainfall yesterday night. The city’s low lying areas of Chowkbazar, Kapashgola, Bakalia, Bahaddarhat, Agrabad, Halishahar, CDA residential area, Bepari para went under water with waist deep to knee deep water. The slums in these areas a re worstly affected with water.
The levels of water gradually increasing in these areas due to sea tide in the morning hours. Public vehicles went out in roads in these areas and rickshaws and auto rickshaws claiming higher rate from the commuter.
School students face severe miseries to attend their second terminal examination. Schools in the low lying areas declared closed yesterday . The daily labourers fall in utter miseries to earn their daily income. Construction works in the city remain suspended yesterday , different sources said. The ground floors of all buildings in these areas became unhabitable due to flash flood water . The flow of tidal water will increase from 3 pm as it is the time of sea tide.
Due to incessant rain for the last 24 hours , the road communications between Chattograim and Rangamati, Khagrachhari remained suspended due inundation of roads on different points. Officer In charge of Raozan Highway police Abdul Karim told that due to incessant rain for the last 24 hours accompanied with hilly flash water, the Rangamati Highway submerged. Upazila sources said, flash floods experiencing in low lying areas of Raozan, Rangunia, Fatikchari,Boalkhali, Hathazari.
A resident of Raozan sadar told this correspondent that almost all mud houses except few demolished with flood water in last month’s flood but this time.
Cargo handling in outer berths of Chattogram Port remained suspended due to rough sea and inclement weather. Partial delivery of consignment from port shed remain operative . Unloading, unloading at inner berths also hampered , port sources said. All inter city and mail trains from Chattogram operated as per schedule but the operation of air flights disrupted to some extents.
Long distanced private passenger coaches less visible in the bus terminals of Kadamtali, station road, Bahaddarhat yesterday.
