A Correspondent :
Female members of a house owned by one Ahmed Ali have allegedly been harassed by a group of unknown masked miscreants in Tongi Municipal area under Gazipur district recently.According to their statement, a group of six-seven people covering their face with black cloth came to the house of Ahmed Ali at night on March 8 last and inquired about his whereabouts. They started knocking at the gate of the house and asked the inmates to open the gate. Hearing a hue and cry Afifa Akter Suborna, wife of Ahmed Ali and her university-going daughter Sanzida Ahmed Promy told the strangers that without knowing their identity they cannot open the gate at night and Ahmed Ali is not in the house.
But at that time Ahmed Ali was in the house and very quickly he jumped through the backside window of the house and fled away. The miscreants also threatened to break open the gate and kill the inmates. Afifa and her daughter got so scared that they started crying out for neighbours’ help. When people from adjacent houses came out in their help the miscreants left the place quickly.
This correspondent, later on, talked to Afifa Akter Suborna. She told that very often unknown people came to their house and looked for her husband Ahmed Ali and tried to enter the house forcibly. She further said that she had informed the local police and local people’s representative of the incident.
They all assured the family that they would take necessary steps in this regard. But it’s a matter of regret that such incidents are happening very often. This correspondent then talked to some of the neighbours who confirmed the incident. Later on, this correspondent talked to the Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Tongi Police Station. The OC said, “We got the information several times from Afifa Akter Suborna, her daughter Sanzida Ahmed Promy and her son Abdullah Al Mamun Fahim about the incidents. We are keeping watchful eye on that house”.
The OC also said, “We heard that eight to nine years back three incidents happened to Ahmed Ali.
On March 25, 2013 some people attacked and injured him seriously at Tongi College Gate; on May 17, 2013 a group of people forcibly entered his house and looked for him. He very quickly jumped through backside of the house and fled away; and on August 21, 2013 five-six unknown people forcibly entered his house and took him in a van and kept in their custody for three days and tortured him mercilessly.”
It is learnt that the miscreants had taken written commitment from Ahmed Ali that he would not be involved in politics of Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) anymore and on this condition they had released him.
