Nilphamari Correspondent :
Miscreants destroyed about 100 maund of fishes of exotic varieties by pouring poison in the pond of fish farmer Abdus Samad (55) of Daksin Kharibari village in Dimla upazila of the district on Monday night .
The farmer however suspected his influential neighbour Nazrul Islam (45) for recurrence of the crime to take revernge after getting bail from High Court as he was sentenced to jail by a court in Nilphamari for same offence committed against him (farmer) about 8 years ago.
Visiting the area at noon of today, it was found that scores of fishes were floating on pond water and some children were collecting the fishes to take them home.
Farmer Samad said that he was cultivating fish in this leased pond for last 8 years and this year he cultivated rare variety fishes like sing, magur, koi, tengra and some other varieties investing Tk 5 lakh arranged by taking loan from a commercial bank and NGO.
” I was expecting to get a profit of Tk 10-12 lakh as I fed the fishes regularly and do everything suggested by upazila fishery department but neighbour Nazrul made me beggar overnight from the graze of taking revange on me,” he told further.
Locals informed that Samad took lease of the pond with area 1.86 acres to cultivate fish from one Namiruddin son of Kachu Mamud in year 2007 for 15 years paying lease money of Tk 15 lakh.
At time of taking the lease, neighbour Nazrul Islam asked Samad not to take lease of the pond as he (Nazrul) also wanted to cultivate fish there and by this time paid a good amount of money to the owner in advance, they said further.
As Samad didn’t pay heed to Nazrul’s words, a rivalry was created between them from that time.
Farmer Samad said that Nazrul being furious committed the same type of crime in year 2008 as killed his fishes in the same pond worth about Tk 2 lakh also by pouring poison at night.
Nazrul was sentenced to jail for 2 years rigorous imprisonment by a court in Nilphamari in February this year (2016) as farmer Samad filed a case accusing Nazrul for the crime.
After suffering three months in jail, Nazul became free as got bail from high court few days ago and threatened Samad of taking revange.
” In line with the threatening, Nazrul again killed all my fishes last night (of Monday),” lamented farmer Samad.
Regarding the matter, Samad filed a case with Dimla police station accusing Nazrul on Tuesday afternoon. s
While contacted, accused Nazrul said that it was an arranged game of Samad as wanted to endanger him and added that he (Samad) sold most of big fishes in the pond only a week ago.
Officer in charge of Dimla police station Ruhul Amin Khan said that Abdus Samad filed a case against bringing charge of killing fishes by pouring poison.
Action will be taken after completion of the ongoing investment.
