UNB, Rajshahi :
Police on Tuesday pressed charges against 130 BNP men, including Rajshahi City Corporation (RCC) Mayor Mosaddek Hossain Bulbul and its former mayor Mizanur Rahman Minu, in a case filed for attempting to murder a cop.
Sub-inspector of Boalia Police Station Nazrul Islam, also the investigation officer of the case, submitted a charge-sheet before the Rajshahi Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court in the afternoon.
The BNP activists, led by Minu, central joint secretary general and president of city unit, brought out a procession from Bhuban Mohan Park area of the city on June 4, 2011 in support of a hartal.
As the procession reached the local press club in Saheb Bazar Zero Point area, police obstructed it when an altercation ensued between the two sides.
At one stage, the BNP men hurled brickbats at the law enforcers, triggering a clash that left several hundred activists injured.
Later, police fired several rounds of rubber bullets and lobbed teargas shells to disperse the BNP men.
Police claimed that Khan Mohammad Shahriar, the then Inspector (Investigation) of Boalia Model Police Station, sustained bullet wounds during the incident. Police filed a case in this connection on the same day.
