BNP leader Abdul Awal Mintoo’s wife Nasrin Awal has visited the party’s chief, Khaleda Zia, along with their son, Tabith Mohammed Awal, a Dhaka North mayor aspirant.
Talks have been ongoing about the party endorsing the youngster after his father, the BNP chairperson’s adviser, failed to pass the EC screening of nomination or get a stay order from the High Court.
His nomination was scrapped since his supporter-signatory was not a Dhaka city corporation voter.
Tabith had picked up and submitted forms along with his father and made it through the EC scrutiny.
However, state-owned Sonali Bank Ltd charged him with defaulting on loan repayment and lodged a plea on Saturday against his candidature in the Apr 28 city polls
The divisional commissioner, the Election Commission-appointed appeals authority, will hold a hearing on the matter on Tuesday evening.
Only a night from the hearing, he and his mother went to Khaleda’s residence around 10:15pm on Monday and left roughly an hour later.
However, no-one divulged what had transpired in the 45-minute meeting.
Khaleda returned home after visiting the grave of her younger son Arafat Rahman Koco in Banani earlier in the day.
She was visited in the evening by Kazi Zafar Ahmed, chief of a Jatiya Party faction.
There are no candidates for the BNP to back in Dhaka North other than Tabith and Bikalpadhara Bangladesh leader Mahi B Chowdhury.
A possible endorsement for the former BNP MP is also under consideration.
Businessman Annisul Huq has received the Awami League backing for Dhaka North while the party’s former MP Sarah Begum Kabari is also preparing to contest without party backing.
