Minorities fear attacks ahead of elections

Minority communities have been apprehending escalation of violence and attacks on them with the national elections getting nearer.
The community leaders said that around 380 members of the minority community were subjected to
attacks till August this year.
Since 2016, the number of attacks and incidents of violence on the minority community came down to 1004 from 1471 in 2017, the Oikya Parishad leaders said.
Bangladesh Hindu-Buddha-Christian Oikya Parishad announced a programme to hold a mass rally at the Suhrawardy Udyan on September 28 to protest the incidents, said the parishad’s General Secretary Rana Das Gupta on Sunday.
Prof Emeritus Anisuzzaman will be the chief guest at the rally, he said in a press briefing in Dhaka’s Jatiya Press Club in the morning.
