After more than a month’s silence, a case was filed with a court here on Sunday over the killing of a child who was scalded to death in Daulatpur Upazila.
Victim’s father Abdul Khalek filed the case at the Metropolitan Magistrate’s Court against 13 people in the morning. Judge Shahidul Islam ordered Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) to look into the matter.
According to case statement, Rupsha upazila resident Khalek lived with his wife and child Lima Khatun Ittifa, 10, in Chattogram.
His step daughter from his wife’s first marriage, Ripa alias Rumpa, and her husband Shahid brought Ittifa to Daulatpur on November 20 last year.
They kept the girl at their uncle Abdul Gani’s house. On March 28, Rumpa poured boiling water on the child.
As Ittifa’s condition gradually deteriorated, she was taken to Khulna Medical College Hospital on March 30 using fake name and address. The girl died on April 5.
The next day, Gani picked up Khalek and made him sign a blank paper. He also threatened to kill him and hand him over to police with Yaba, if he lodged any complaint over his daughter’s death.
