Staff Reporter :
The High Court on Tuesday rejected a petition filed by Aysha Siddika Minni seeking cancellation of the trial proceedings in a case filed against her over the murder of her husband Rifat Sharif in Barguna.
The HC Bench of Justice AKM Asaduzzaman and Justice SM Mozibur Rahman passed the order as her petition was not moved properly.
The trial proceedings of the murder case will now go on as usual, Advocate Jamiul Ahsan Faisal, a lawyer for Minni, told the reporters.
Minni recently filed the petition with the HC seeking cancellation of the trial proceedings of the case against her saying that the lower court could not frame charges against her properly under due process of law.
Advocate ZI Khan Panna appeared for Minni while Deputy Attorney General FR Khan represented the State.
On January 1, this year, Barguna District and Sessions Judges Court framed charges against the accused including Minni.
Rifat Sharif, 25, an internet service provider, was hacked to death in broad daylight in front of his wife’s college in Barguna town on June 26, 2019. In a video footage of the incident that went viral in the social media, Minni was seen screaming and trying in vain to save her husband from the assailants.
The victim’s father filed a murder case with Barguna Sadar Police Station against 12 people on the same day.
Police arrested Minni after a daylong interrogation on July 16. A court placed her on a five-day remand the following day. Three days later, a Barguna court recorded her statement.
On August 29, the High Court granted bail to Minni on condition that she would talk to the media and remain in her father’s custody.
On September 1, police pressed charges against her and 23 others for their alleged involvement in the murder of Rifat Sharif.
Meanwhile, the name of the prime accused Sabbir Hossain Nayan alias Nayan Bond has been excluded from the charges as he was killed in a “gunfight” on July 2, six days after the murder.
