A Barguna court has rejected bail petition of Ayesha Siddiqua Minni in connection with the murder case of Rifat who was attacked in broad daylight by a group of assailants wielding sharp weapons in Barguna town.
After hearing arguments made from both the sides, Judge Md Asaduzzaman of Barguna District and Sessions Judges Court passed the order yesterday.
Earlier on July 23, advocate Mahbubul filed a petition seeking bail for Rifat’s wife Minni.
Previously, Barguna Senior Judicial Magistrate Mohammad Sirajul Islam Gazi rejected Minni’s plea for treatment.
On July 16, police arrested Minni. A court later placed her on a five-day remand the following day.
On July 18, SP Maruf claimed that Minni confessed to her involvement in the murder. The next day, a Barguna court recorded her statements. Soon after her statements, Minni’s father Mozammel Hossain said her daughter gave the statements under duress. At a press conference on July 24, he claimed that Rifat was killed as a sequel to an altercation with Shamsunnahar Khuki, wife of Barguna Zilla Parishad Chairman, and former lawmaker Md Delwar Hossain.
On June 26, the 23-year-old Rifat Sharif was attacked in broad daylight by a group of assailants wielding sharp weapons in Barguna town’s College Road area, while his wife desperately tried to save him.
He later died of excessive bleeding, caused from the wounds he sustained during the attack, according to a post-mortem examination conducted at Barishal Medical College Hospital.
The video of the attack later went viral on the Internet and it sparked outrage across the country.
