Aysha Siddika Minni admitted her involvement in the murder of her husband Rifat Sharif.
“During the interrogation in remand, Minni confessed to her involvement in the murder of Rifat Sharif,” Superintendent of Police (SP) Maruf Hossain, told the reporters in a press briefing at his office in Barguna on Thursday morning.
Most of the accused arrested in connection with the Rifat murder earlier gave statements that Minni was involved in the killing, the police official said.
When asked about the statements of the other accused regarding Minni’s involvement in the murder, SP Maruf said, police have gathered enough evidence to prove her [Minni’s] involvement in the murder,” he said.
He further said Minni had been placed on five-day remand on the basis of her confession.
“We are trying to put everyone involved in the Rifat murder behind bars, and Minni’s confession has made it easier to unravel the case,” the SP added.
Asked about Minni’s father’s anxiety for security, the SP said, there is no such issue at present.
Earlier while talking to the correspondent, Minni’s father Md Mozammel Hossain Kishor claimed that he was not sending his son and daughter to schools fearing that his family members might come under attack of the fugitives..
On Tuesday, police arrested Minni after a daylong interrogation. A court placed her on a five-day remand the following day. Minni is the key witness of the murder that took place in front of her college on June 26. Rifat Sharif, a 25-year-old internet service provider, was indiscriminately hacked by a group of rowdy youths there.
In a video footage of the incident that went viral in the social media, Minni was seen screaming and trying in vain to save her husband from the assailants.
The victim’s father filed a murder case with Barguna Sadar Police Station against 12 people the same day.
The prime accused in the case, Nayon Bond, was killed in a “gunfight” with police on July 2.
To date, 14 people have been arrested in connection with Rifat Sharif’s murder. Of the fourteen, ten have confessed to their crimes, eight of whom have been sent in the prison, and another being underage, is being held at a safe house.
Meanwhile, Police have arrested Rishan Forazi, the third key suspect in the broad day light murder of Rifat Sharif at Barguna town.
A police team arrested Rifat Forazi around 10:00am on Thursday, according to the SP.
Rishan is the brother of Rifat Forazi, the second key suspect in the case and nephew of Barguna District Council Chairman Delwar Hossain. The two brothers were the main accomplices of Sabbir Ahmed, who dubbed himself as Nayon Bond in his crime world.
Rifat Forazi was arrested two weeks ago and Nayon was killed in a so-called gunfight with police.
“Police have arrested 15 suspects, including Minni, the main witness in the Rifat Sharif murder case,” the SP said.
