Staff Reporter :
Migrant workers undergoing mandatory institutional quarantine in Saudi Arabia will get Tk 25,000 as subsidy-provided by the Bangladesh government, Expatriates’ Welfare Ministry said on Thursday.
In a press release, the ministry said to avail the money, migrant workers have to obtain emigration clearance card, known as smartcard, issued by the Bureau of Manpower, Employment and Training or be a member of the Wage Earners’ Welfare Board.
The decision to include new migrant workers has been taken following applications received from them, it said.
The process to send the money soon to the designated bank account of the worker or his or her representative was underway, it added.
The money will be given to the workers who have
already undergone hotel quarantine in Saudi Arabia on their own expenses since May 20 and those who will travel to the Kingdom by June 30.
The decision was taken after Saudi Arabia issued a travel advisory effective from May 20 citing mandatory institutional quarantine in the Kingdom, and some other clauses for passengers traveling there from non-restricted countries including Bangladesh.
