Ministry seeks FBCCI election candidates’ updated credit info

The Ministry of Commerce has sought the updated credit information of the candidates participating in the upcoming Federation of Bangladesh Chamber of Commerce and Industries (FBCCI) election.
According to article, 15 (c) of the FBCCI constitution loan defaulters are not eligible to participate in the FBCCI election, said a letter sent from the commerce ministry to the Bangladesh Bank on Wednesday.
So, it was necessary to update loan default related information of all the candidates competing for the post FBCCI director, said the letter addressed to Bangladesh Bank Governor Fazle Kabir.
The letter signed by Deputy Secretary Dr Syeda Nahida Habiba further said the election of this top organisation of businesspersons and industrialists of the country will be held on 5 May.
Earlier on Tuesday, the commerce ministry said in an order that taking the Covid-19 situation into account, trade organisations would be allowed to hold elections by 31 December this year.
The ministry has issued the new directives after FBCCI’s presidential candidate and Vice Chairman of the Bengal Group Jashim Uddin met officials of the commerce ministry on Wednesday and opposed the order.
