Minister opens NCT gate, Port shed

Shipping Minister Md. Shahjahan Khan MP formally inaugurated the newly- built New Mooring Container Terminal Gate and container shed of Chittagong Port on Friday as chief guest . Chairman of CPA Rear Admiral M Khaled Iqbal delivered address of welcome on the occasion.
The minister in his brief deliberations said 92% imports, exports activities are handled through Chittagong port and 98% container handlings are done by this port and the rest 2% done by Mongla Port.
 He said the annual GDP of CP is about 16% and during last 9 months, CP handles 17 lakh TEUs containers and in current fiscal it will exceed by 22 lakh TEUs. Local legislator MA Latif MP graced the occasion as special guest.
Among others, Joint secretary of the concerned ministry SM Tarequl Islam, Commissioner of Chittagong Customs House AFM Abdullah khan, Member of CP Commodore Julfikar Aziz, Chittagong Chamber director Mahfuzul Hoque shah, Berth Operator Association President Fazle Ikram chowdhry, President of Junior chamber Niaz Morshed, CPA secretary Omar Faruk, Managing Director Saif Power Tec Md. Ruhul Amin and senior officials of the Port were present on the occasion.
Meanwhile the Minister graced the function of the Lloyds Certificate awarding ceremony at Shahid Fazlur Rahman Munshi Auditorium as Chief Guest in the afternoon.
Captain Zillur Rahman , Convenor of Lloyds List in Bangladesh handed over the Lloyds survey certificate meant for Chittagong Port to the minister on the occasion. Port sources said a survey of the 100 best container handlding ports across the world , Chittagong Port ranked at 76th position .
Chittagong port advanced by 11 steps leaving the Karachi port of Pakistan and other ports of India. The position according to Lloyds Survey, Karachi ports ranks 80sth position, sources said.
