Staff Reporter :
The Islamic Foundation has fixed this year’s minimum Fitra Tk 70 and maximum Fitra Tk 2,200 per head.
The Foundation took the decision on Monday at a meeting chaired by Hafez Maulana Mohammad Mizanur Rahman, Senior Pesh Imam of Baitul Mukarram National Mosque and president of the National Fitra Fixing Committee. Fitra, also known as Zakat al-fitr or fitrana, is compulsory charity paid by every rich Muslim at the end of Ramadan.
As per the Islamic Shariah, the rate for Fitra per head is based on the prices of flour, dates, raisin, cheese, or barley.
Minimum Tk70 has been fixed based on the price of 1.650 grams of flour, while maximum Tk2200 has been fixed based on the price of 3.300 grams of cheese.
The other options are barley, raisin, dates or cheese.
Last year, the minimum amount was the same but the maximum amount was Tk 1,980. The amount, or the equivalent foodstuff, is distributed among the poor as Sadkatul Fitr or Fitra before the Eid-ul-Fitr congregation.
