Minhaz, Taibur take joint lead

IM Mohammad Minhaz Uddin of Bangladesh Navy and FM Md Taibur Rahman of SAIF Sporting Club took joint lead in the points table of the Rectangle FIDE Rapid Rating Chess Tournament after the fourth round matches held on Tuesday at Bangladesh Chess Federation hall-room.
Four players are sharing the second position with 3.5 points. They are IM Abu Sufian Shakil of Sheikh Russel Chess Club, FM Syed Mahfuzur Rahman of Janata Bank Officer Welfare Society, CM Sohel Chowdhury of Titas Club and M Shawket Bin Osman Shaon of Golden Sporting Club.
The inauguration ceremony of the event was held prior start of the games. GM Ziaur Rahman inaugurates the event as the chief guest with Mohammad Amir Ali Rana, president of Golden Sporting Club, in the chair.
WIM Rani Hamid, senior software engineer Asiquzzaman Fahim and CEO of Rectangle Communications Ltd Mohammad Rasheduzzaman were present as special guests.
The first to fourth round games were held on the opening day with FM Taibur beat GM Zaiur Rahman, IM Minhaz beat Ataur Rahman, IM Shakil beat CM Mahtabuddin Ahmed, FM Mahfuz beat Matiur Rahman Mamun, CM Sohel beat Jabed Al Azad and Shaon beat Golam Mostafa Buiyan.
A total of 66 players including one GM, two IM’s, one WIM and four FM’s are participating in the event. The event is being held in Swiss-League system and cash prize of Taka 50,000 will be given to the winners.
The fifth round games will be held today (Wednesday) at the same venue.
