Milon Bhattacharya’s 46 years with tabla

Milon Bhattacharya is a renowned tabla player in Bangladesh. He played tabla with songs of all the singers of the country. He was born in Chattogram. He took primary training in tabla playing from Ustad Kanai Lal when he was only five years old. From him Milon received training for 18 years at a time. Later he took lesson from Ustad Aditya Narayan for two years. But he followed playing of Ustad Radha Kanto Nandi. He played tabla with Indian noted singer Manobendra Mukherjee. Milon informed that during that time he received training from Biplab Bhattacharya of Santiniketan. Once he was doing job under his father but he could not concentrate in job. Later, after getting
permission from his parents Milon started
to play tabla professionally. After independence he played tabla in different programmes in Chattogram.
Once in Chattogram, late filmmaker Azmal Huda Mithu liked Milon’s playing. He brought Milon to Dhaka. In 1972, he gave him an opportunity to play tabla in a programme Sur Bitan. Then Milon got another opportunity to play in Mithu’s a movie under music director Ali Hossain’s direction. During that time he also played tabla in film Borgi Elo Deshe. Later, he played tabla
in many movies. He played tabla in more than 15 thousands songs.
Milon said, “I always feel proud to introduce myself as a tabla player. It is a God fisted quality which everybody cannot get.
But instrumental artistes of our country cannot get proper recognition at all.“
