Millions rush to register for jabs

Millions of people in Bangladesh have registered to get Covid-19 vaccines amid soaring death toll from the coronavirus in the country.
The number of people who have registered for the coronavirus vaccine on Surokkha web platform has reached 22.5 million till Saturday afternoon, Masum Billah, system manager at the government’s ICT Division told the media.
“The rate of registration hovers around 3,500 per minute from 8 am to 9 pm, but it drops after 10 pm,” he said, adding, “The pressure for registration is growing after the government launched mass vaccination programme from Saturday.
The number of people registering for vaccine was not big in early days, but it has been rising rapidly since Jul 25, according to Masum. The government suspended the registration in May due to a lack of vaccine doses. The process resumed in July after more doses arrived.
The registration for vaccine had exceeded 10 million last 14 July.
Recently Zunaid Ahmed Palak, State Minister for ICT Division, Ministry of Post, Telecommunications & Information Technology, said that there are capacity of Surokkha app to registered 50 lakh people in a day.
It should be noted that the registration programme for getting Covid-19 jab has started from 26 January. And the mass vaccination drive began from February 7. Then due to vaccine shortage the registration for vaccination programme has postponed from June 8. After that at the end of June the authority have been started registration programme for vaccination.
