Militants grow at varsities, not at madrasas: Asad

Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal on Sunday said that university and college students become militants while those have no such recent record from Madrasa.
The countrymen are religiously devoted, but they are not fanatic.
The minister said it as the chief guest at the ‘Anti-militancy Ulama Mashayekh rally’ ahead of community policing day arranged by district Police and Ulama Mashayekh Forum at Police Lines Playground in Shariatpur on Sunday afternoon.
He opined if the religious scholars help the law enforcers, then members of law enforcing agencies will eradicate militancy from the country.
Inspector General of Police (IGP) AKM Shahidul Hoque also echoed with the minister and said that children from high status families were mainly involved in militancy.
He also requested the Islamic scholars to prevent illegal and unethical activities in the society.
The Imams should recite sermons focusing the bad effects of terrorism and militancy.
Shariatpur Constituency-1 MP BM Mozammel Haque, Reserve Constituiency-27 Advocate Navana Akter, Additional Inspector General (Dhaka range) Mohammad Shafiqul Islam, Deputy Commissioner (Acting) Mahbuba Akter, Shariatpur Municipal Mayor Md Rafiqul Islam Kotwal, among others, were present at the function.
