Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment Minister Nurul Islam B. Sc. On Thursday firmly said that recent militant attacks in the country would not affect export of manpower to other countries.
“We have sent 6,88,954 workers abroad with employment since July 2015 and we expect over 7 lakh workers would go overseas this year,” he said at a press briefing at his ministry.
The minister briefed newsmen on completion of his job successfully during the last one year as the minister. Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment Secretary Begum Shamsun Nahar also spoke and highlighted various sides of manpower export issue.
Nurul Islam said manpower export to Saudi Arabia and Lebanon from Bangladesh will not be affected by the recent militant attacks at Gulshan cafe and Sholakia Eidgah ground.
“Even the incident of imprisonment of four Bangladeshi workers by a Singapore court for financing terrorism will not affect country’s manpower export, as Bangladeshi workers are doing their work sincerely,” he stated.
The minister pointed out that 3,77,312 overseas workers have gone to different countries with jobs during the current year and the country received $ 15.5 billion as remittance in 2015.
Replying to a query on Human Rights Watch report on Bangladeshi migrant domestic workers facing problem in Oman, he said, “We are yet to receive any formal complaint from female workers in Oman”.
Besides, the government would send a team to Saudi Arabia and Lebanon to assess the overall condition of Bangladeshi workers there, the minister added.
He hoped that Bangladesh would be able to send around eight lakh workers abroad next year.
