Awami League Acting General Secretary Mahbub-Ul-Alam Hanif, MP, on Sunday reiterated that militancy would be uprooted from the country with the help of mass people.
“The militancy is now under control as the incumbent government remains in tough position against it . . . We, along with the people, will continue our tough programme until the militancy is rooted out completely from the country,” he told newsmen after paying tribute to Sheikh Jamal, son of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, at Banani graveyard marking his (Jamal) 66th birthday.
Referring to taking oath of a BNP-nominated MP, senior AL leader said BNP leaders have no faith in democracy that’s why they are barring their elected lawmakers from joining the Parliament.
“People gave them (MPs) legal mandate for the Jatiya Sangsad. But they (BNP leaders) are opposing their elected leaders who want to go to the parliament. Actually, they haven’t any faith in democracy that’s why they are talking against the parliament,” he added.
Hanif also expressed hope that BNP MP-elects, including BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamagir, will take oath as MPs very soon.
AL joint secretary general Jahangir Kabir Nanak, organising secretary AKM Enamul Haque Shameem, relief and disaster management affairs secretary Sujit Roy Nandi , among others, were present there.
