4-day DC confce begins tomorrow: Militancy, infrastructure, power, tourism issues to get priority

The four-day conference of the deputy commissioners (DCs) will begin at the Prime Minister Office in the city tomorrow (Tuesday).
Ahead of the conference, the DCs have already sent different proposals, including militancy, infrastructure, power and tourism issues, focusing the country’s progress.
The DCs have sought control over telecasting on some cartoon TV channels, social media, fixing prices of goods as well as fees of examinations in educational institutions, considering the future of the children and interest of the common people.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will inaugurate the conference in ‘Shapla Hall’ at her office at 10:00am on Tuesday, said Cabinet Secretary Shafiul Alam.
The Cabinet Division has already prepared a working
paper with 336 recommendations sent by the DCs for discussion in the conference, he said.
The militancy, tourism, infrastructure, transport and communications, river management, settling cross-border, and migrant issues, will get priority based on the desire of the Prime Minister to run the country smoothly, said Prime Minister Office and ministries’ sources.
According to working paper, the DCs have suggested to make digitalized all official activities in the country as early as possible.
They also proposed that the government arrange vehicles for their staff, especially for assistant commissioners (land) so that they can work easily at the field level.
The DCs suggested that the government give them the authority to take action against local body representatives — chairmen and members — if they are found guilty of being involved in illegal activities.
Barisal DC Dr Gazi Mohammad Saifuzzaman told The New Nation that the government should allow them in fixing prices of goods to save the common people from unscrupulous traders.
He requested the government to allocate extra fund to check river erosion and rehabilitating the erosion victims across the country.
Nilphamari DC Zakir Hossain demanded uninterrupted power supply to all the districts.
The government should establish infrastructures to speed up work at the grassroots levels, he said.
Bogra acting DC Khorshed Alam said, “We have sought restriction to operate some cartoon TV channels from 12:00 midnight to 7:00am so that the children can sleep and attend school normally.”
He said that the government should increase facilities in tourism and heath sectors.
Rangpur DC Rahat Anwar said that intensified security measure is the main point in his district.
Sirganj DC Md Belal Hossain said, “We have demanded extra fund for tackling river erosion and establishing park and multimedia classrooms in educational institutions.”
Moulvibazar additional deputy commissioner (general) Mohammad Mashooqur Rahman Sikdar demanded a tourism institute for uplifting the potentials of the sector in Sreemangal upazila in the district.
A DC seeking anonymity said, they would reiterate the demand for reinstating their power through amendment to the Mobile Court Act 2009 citing slide in the law and order.
Cabinet Secretary Mohammad Shafiul Alam, said, “The DCs have submitted a total of 336 proposals for discussion at different sessions in the conference. Of those, 27 are land and public administration related proposals.”
He said, “The Prime Minister would give DCs the necessary direction to solve militancy crisis from the grassroots to high levels across the country.
The cabinet secretary said: “The strategies and policies of the government will also be discussed in the conference.”
President Abdul Hamid will also give directives to the DCs on the second day of the conference at Bangabhaban on Wednesday evening, he said.
He said, the DCs will exchange views with ministers, advisers, state ministers, and high officials in 18 working sessions out of total 22 sessions during the four-day conference.
In a query, Shafiul Alam said, “land management, improvement of law and order, strengthening the local government institutions, disaster management, relief and rehabilitation activities, use of ICT and e-governance, improvement of the quality of education, healthcare, family welfare and other development activities will be emphasized in the conference.
