The holy Eid-e-Miladunnabi, marking the birth and demise of Prophet Hazrat Muhammad (PBUH), was observed in the country and elsewhere on Tuesday with due reverence and religious fervour.
On this day in 570, the 12th of Rabiul Awal of the Hijri calendar, Hazrat Muhammad (PBUH) was born in Makkah of Saudi Arabia with divine blessings and messages of peace for mankind. He also passed away on the same day.
President Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina gave separate messages greeting the countrymen and Muslims across the globe coinciding with the occasion and seeking eternal blessing for the people’s welfare alongside peace and harmony in the country and elsewhere in the world. Besides, leader of the opposition in parliament Begum Raushan Ershad and BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia in separate messages also greeted the countrymen on the occasion. The day was a public holiday. Bangladesh Betar and Bangladesh Television and satellite television channels aired special programmes on the occasion. Like previous years, different social, cultural, religious, spiritual and political organisations and different state-run organisations, including Islamic Foundation (IF), chalked out elaborate programmes including rally, milad mahfil, discussion and Qurankhwani marking the day.
Witnesses said thousands of devotees under the banner of different religious and socio-cultural organizations, carrying banners inscribed with ‘Kalema Taiyeba’, brought out processions and paraded thoroughfares in the city streets including Gulisthan, Paltan and Jatiya Press Club (JPC).
President Abdul Hamid hosted a milad mahfil at the Bangabhaban where government leaders, religious scholars and distinguished citizens attended in the afternoon.
Earlier, Religious Affairs Minister Principal Matiur Rahman on Tuesday inaugurated a 15-day programme coinciding with the Eid-e-Miladunnabi at the Baitul Mukarram National Mosque under the auspices of Islamic Foundation.
The fortnight programmes include delivery of religious sermons, seminars, exhibition of Islamic calligraphy and posters based on life of the Prophet, book fair, Islamic cultural competition and recitation of poetries on him.
Awami League central committee organized a milad and doa mahfil at Dhanmondi political office of Awami League President Sheikh Hasina after Asr prayer.
On the occasion, Jatiya Press Club yesterday organized a doa mahfil and discussion after Asr prayers.
Meanwhile, some other orgnaisations including Ashekan Maizvandari Association, Torikate Mawla Group, Bangladesh and Nazrul Academy in the city Like other organizations, BNP and Jatiyabadi Ulema Dal also organized a milad mahfil at BNP office in capital’s Naya Paltan area after Asr prayer on Tuesday.
The law enforcing agencies have taken an intensified nationwide security measures to avert any untoward incident on the eve of Eid-e-Miladunnabi.
According to reports of our Bureau offices and district correspondents, the Miladunnabi were celebrated all divisions, district and upazila levels including Dhaka, Chittagong, Rajshahi, Sylhet, Rangpur and Barisal.
Apart from this, many educational institutions throughout the country marked the day amid holding milad mahfil, Quran recitation competition, hamd, nath and discussion on the life of the Holy Hazrat Muhammad Prophet(SM).
