The migration of Bangladeshi jobseekers will be brought under automation to save them from harassment by brokers and recruiting agencies, State Minister for Expatriates Welfare and Overseas Employment Imran Ahmad told parliament on Thursday.
Replying to a question from treasury bench member Sayeda Rubina Akter (reserved seat for women), he also said the government has taken steps to update the Overseas Employment and Migration Act 2013 to this end.
“Steps have been taken to bring all the activities –from the beginning to end of migration–under the automation process to ensure transparency and accountability in overall recruiting process in a bid to end the harassment caused by middlemen,” he said.
Imran said the government is working to implement the automation process by this year.
He also said the process to amend the recruiting agent license code of conduct 2002 is now at the final stage.
Replying to another question, the junior minister informed the House that the government has enacted a work plan to send 1,000 workers abroad every year from each upazila of the districts which are lagging behind in migration.
He also said migrant workers from Bangladesh are now being sent to 173 countries.
Imran said the government is also considering making a separate database of the workers who return home from abroad.
