The government is trying to bring hundred percent migrant workers under insurance policies.
“We are working closely with Insurance Development and Regulatory Authority (IDRA) to finalise a policy to bring migrant workers under hundred percent insurance policies soon,” Additional Secretary Aminul Islam, Ministry of Expatriates Welfare and Overseas Employment, told The New Nation on Tuesday.
He said the ministry is in the final stage to take a policy in this regard.
Sources said that the ministry had asked the IDRA to prepare a draft that how to ensure insurance policies for all the migrant workers last year.
The regulatory body has prepared a draft in June last year, they said. According to the sources, the regulatory body organised a meeting on Monday at its office in the city to finalise the draft. It will be compulsory to take three types of insurance policies for the migrant workers.
The insurance policies are health insurance, life insurance and buffer time insurance.
The expatriate workers need to pay the first phase premium before collecting certificate necessary for going abroad for doing job.
Officials of the ministry said, the insurance policies are very important for the migrant workers.
Many of the migrant workers fall sick after reaching a different weather. If they remain under health insurance than the office must help them having treatment abroad.
On the other hand, many expatriates become unemployed because of various reasons. They fell in serious trouble and disappointed in that situation.
If workers take buffer time insurance policies then they will get rid of this worst situation with the help of insurance offices.
The life insurance will be worked if any one of them becomes victim of accidents.
The insurance company will give compensation if any one losses his organ or life.
The health insurance policy will be for one month tenure, the tenure of life insurance policy will be for total tenure of doing job abroad, while the buffer time insurance policy will be for two years and the sum will be Taka 200, 000.
If any worker get loss of job the insurance company will give him damages under his policy scheme. 18 to 58 years old workers will take such policies.
Gokul Chand Das, Member of IDRA, who presided over the Monday’s meeting, said the insurance is a technical matter. We have appointed an expert to make the draft final.
After getting the final draft we will examine it and then submit to the ministry.
