Global technology giant Microsoft would forecast any probable threat and attack to keep Bangladesh’s cyber space secure. The government and Microsoft on Thursday signed an agreement to this end to cooperate with each other in the field of cyber security. Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) Chairman Dr Shahjahan Mahmood and Microsoft Bangladesh Managing Director Sonia Bashir Kabir put pen on the agreement paper at the conference room of Posts and Telecommunications Division. State Minister for Posts and Telecommunications Tarana Halim was present at the signing ceremony. Speaking on the agreement, she said now “Microsoft tied up with us to provide prediction on probable cyber attack.”
Initially, they (Microsoft) would provide information about the possible threat to government offices, Tarana said, “”Microsoft would inform us (Posts and Telecommunications Division) of any probable cyber threat as per the agreement, and we would work together to defuse the threat.” The agreement would be effective for next three years, said Sonia Bashir Kabir, adding:
“Microsoft wound not impose any charge for the services.” She said Microsoft would give precautionary information and “take defensive measures to defuse hacking using internet robot on basis of permission.”
Posts and Telecommunications Secretary Faizur Rahman Chowdhury and BTRC Vice Chairman Ahsan Habib Khan, among others, were present.
