When the corona-hit people are blocked and passing through miseries, businesses are nearly death and economy under life support, the country’s mobile financial service operators (MFS) are contributing contactless cash transactions to support poor people andinjecting fresh bloods to keep the economy alive.
More than 17 MFS operators are now facilitating every day thousands of people cashless payments worth millions of takaagainst buying goods, enjoying services and paying utility bills, which is increasing day by day, a central bank official said.
MFS operators are not charging any fees up to transaction of Tk 1000in case of cash out as part of their contribution to poor and low-income people now battered by corona pandemic. The amounts of such contribution by all MFS operators exceed Tk 7.00 crore with lion share with bkashtill April 7 through cash out and P2P services, MFS operators said.
bKash, the largest MFS player in the country alone contributed more thanTk 5.79 crore during the period facilitating cash out service 30 lakh 81 thousand customers to transact Tk 4.5 crore free of charge. It also contributed Tk 1.25 crore facilitating 13.78 lakh customers to transact Tk 1.25 crore P2P transactions free of charge during the period.
