Metropolitan Judge Court rejects Chhatra-Juba Adhikar leaders’ bail

The Metropolitan Sessions Judge’s Court of Dhaka also rejected the bail petitions of nine leaders and activists of Chhatra and Juba Adhikar Parishad under the leadership of Nurul Haque Nur, former Vice- President of Dhaka University Central Students Union (DUCSU).
On Thursday, Judge of the court KM Imrul Kayes rejected their bail pleas.
The nine accused people are Chhatra Adhikar Parishad’s Central Joint-Convener Rabiul Hasan, Dhaka Metropolitan South Joint Convener Al Amin, Dhaka Metropolitan North Joint Convener Sajal and Dhaka College unit Joint Convener Nazrul Karim Sohag, Asaduzzaman, Momoni Akand, Ariful Islam, Shipon and Rokeya Jabed Maya.
Lawyers Khademul Islam and Sirajul Islam conducted the hearing in the virtual court on behalf of the defence, while Assistant Commissioner of Police Farid Ahmed opposed the bail pleas.
Police filed the case after the demonstrators arranged a rally in front of National Press Club opposing the visit of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Bangladesh. The accused were charged for attacking police, assaulting them and attempt to kill the law enforcing agencies.
Eleven people including Chhatra Adhikar Parishand acting convener Rashed Khan, Joint Convener Faruk Hasan, DU unit General Secretary Akram Hossain, and Central Joint Convener Moshiur Rahan were made accused in the case.
Earlier, the CMM Court of Dhaka rejected their bail petitions.
