State Minister for Labour and Employment M. Mujibul Huq on Thursday said the government is going to distribute stipends among the meritorious children of all workers engaged in formal and informal sectors.
He said this when a delegation of Lafarge Surma Cement Limited called on him and handed over a cheque for Taka 2.26 crore for Sramik Kalyan Tahbil (fund) at Bangladesh Secretariat, said an official release.
Lafarge Surma Cement Limited Chief Executive Officer Niraj Akhouri led the three-member delegation.
The state minister said children of workers who got GPA 5 in SSC or equivalent examinations in 2015 and 2016 will get stipend of Taka 25,000 from Sramik Kalyan Tahbil, if they apply for it by August 30.
Besides, children of workers studying in public universities, medical, agriculture or engineering colleges or universities will get up to Taka 3 lakh as stipend.
Till date, Taka 171 crore has been deposited to Sramik Kalyan Tahbil.
Seventy-one local multinational organizations have deposited a fixed portion of their profit to this fund.
Senior officials concerned were present in the meeting.
