The 158th show of famous play of theatre troupe Theatre titled Meraj Fakirer Maa was staged at the National Theatre Hall of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy in the city’s Segunbagicha area on Friday to celebrate the birthday of legendary theatre personality late Abdullah Al-Mamun.
It’s the highest performed stage play by this troupe. The troupe has been staging 18 plays written by Abdullah Al-Mamun and he had directed 23 plays for the troupe. He was not only a playwright but also an actor and filmmaker. His literary works mostly depicts the contemporary issues of Bangladesh in a creative way.
July 12 was the 73rd birthday of Abdullah Al-Mamun, the veteran multidimensional artist.
Theatre troupe named Theatre founded by him didn’t celebrate the occasion on date because of Ramadan. Now they have arranged it on August 7.
On the mentioned day eminent educationist and author Dr Syed Manzoorul Islam delivered Abdullah Al-Mamun Memorial Speech at Seminar Room of the National Theatre of BSA in the afternoon.
Abdullah Al-Mamun is the pioneer to make theatre famous in Bangladesh. Plays written by him like Subochon Nirbashoney, Ekhon Dusshomoy, Shenapoti, Ekhono Kritodas, Kokilara, Spordha, Meraj Fakirer Maa and others have been performing all over the country from years.
He had successfully led Bangladesh Television for a long time.
Songshoptok produced and directed by Abdullah Al-Mamun is one of the most famous TV plays of Bangladesh Television for all time.
Amongst his films Sareng Bou, Ekhoni Somoy, Sokhi Tumi Kaar are the most appreciated ones.
He received numerous national awards including the prestigious Ekushey Padak, National Film Award and Bangla Academy Award as the recognition of his creative works.
