Play-back legend of the country Andrew Kishore recently returned to country after receiving long time treatment in Singapore. After returning he went to his hometown in Rajshahi. He is passing time there silently by own way. Andrew Kishore debuted his career as a play-back singer with the hands of seven times National Film Award and four times BACHSAS Award winner noted music director Alam Khan, who is also mentor of the singer.
Andrew first lent his vocal for play-back song in Shibly Sadik’s film Mail Train, which yet not released. Then viewers first enjoyed his voice in play-back song titled Eke chor jai chole pichhone legechhe daroga in hero Alamgir’s lip in AJ Mintu directed film Protigga. Alam Khan composed this song which lyrics were written by Dewan Nazrul.
In the first film, film-lovers started to love Andrew’s voice as a play-back singer. He came into limelight to render the popular song titled Haire manush rongin fanush dom furaile thoos, which was used in Mohiuddin directed film Boro Valo Lok Chhilo released in 1982. Late Syed Shamsul Haque wrote lyrics of this song. For this song both Alam Khan and Andrew Kishore got the National Film Awards for first time in category of Best Music Director and Best Singer respectively.
Andrew Kishore is seriously ill now. His mentor Alam Khan always prays for his recovery.
He said, “Without Andrew Kishore’s songs, there is not possible to think about Bangladesh’s play-back songs. His contributions in four decades in the country’s play-back arena have made him ‘emperor of play-back songs.’ His vocal is appropriate for Kawali, Ghazal, folk, modern and other songs. This vocal is really appropriate for play-back song. His life is fruitful as ‘emperor of play-back song.’ As a person, he is gentle, polite and dedicated to music. He is really a nice person. May Allah bless him early recovery.”
Alam Khan also informed that he first paid Andrew Kishore to Tk 500 as his remuneration. Student of Rajshahi University, Andrew was born at Mission Hospital in Rajshahi. He learnt many things about music from Ustad Abdul Aziz Bachchu.
In 1977, AHM Rafiq was working in an important post in Betar’s Transmission Service. One day he called Andrew to come in Dhaka. During that time Md Shahidul Islam, who was working at Shilpakala Academy, made a plan to give scope to modern singers of mufassil areas under master directors then good singers might come out. As a part of that plan, Subir Nandi, Farida Parveen, Probal Chowdhury and Andrew Kishore came out in the country’s musical arena, Alam Khan added.
Andrew last lent his vocal for a song titled Fuler gondher moto theke jabo tomar rumal-e composed by Alam Khan’s tune which lyrics were written by late Syed Shamsul Haque, he also said.
