In a tragic incident, a son slaughtered his parents to death in the open day light at West Niltek village under Shayesta union of Singair upazila in Manikganj district on Sunday.
The killer son Saidur Rahman, reportedly mentally retarded, at one stage was shot dead by the police after being chased and beaten by the local people.
The ill-fated parents were identified as Mohiuddin Pramanik, 60 and his wife Sufia Khatun, 50. Witnesses and police sources said Mohiuddin, a rickshaw puller, died instantly when his son Saidur Rahman chopped him indiscriminately with a sharp knife at about 11am.
Saidur severed the head from his father’s body. He also cut his father’s body into several pieces using the sharp blade.
Seeing that brutal occurrence, Sufia Khatun, mother of Saidur, came forward to resist her son.
But Saidur also slaughtered his mother leaving the body in a pool of blood.
Meanwhile, hundreds of villagers rushed to the spot hearing
the cry of victims’ family members.
After killing his parents, Saidur had been staying in the house. None could dare to approach him.
Seeing the villagers in front of his house, Saidur became more violent. He chased the villagers with the knife.
The villagers also became angry and counter chased the killer.
In the meanwhile, the police came to the spot getting information from the local people.
The law enforcers tried to capture the killer. Being failed, the police opened fire.
Saidur received at least four bullets in different parts of his body including the chest.
He fell on the ground and then the agitated villagers started beating him indiscriminately. He died on the spot, the witnesses said.
Mohiuddin’s sister Nuri Begum told the local journalists that her nephew Saidur was ‘mentally retarded’.
“Saidur had no job. An altercation took place over this between the parents and the son. In a sequel to it Saidur hacked his parents to death,” she said.
Syed-uz Zaman, Officer-in Charge of Singair police station, however, claimed that Saidur was not killed in police firing.
“We are investigating the matter. We have also send three bodies to Manikganj Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsy,” the OC said.
