A mentally challenged woman (25) of Hossainpur upazila under Kishoreganj district has given birth to a baby (son). She gave birth in Rampur Bazar area of Pumdi union of the upazila on Monday.
Later, Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Rabeya Parvez admitted the mother and the newborn to the hospital.
Mahbubul Hasan, chairman of Pumdi Union Parishad said, a mentally unbalanced woman had been wandering in the Rampur Bazar area for two weeks. In this situation, three local women named Nasreen, Jasmine and Sabina assisted in the delivery of her baby. Upon receiving the news, UNO Rabeya Parvez admitted the mother and the newborn to Hossainpur Health Complex. She later went to the hospital to inquire about the mother and baby.
Civil Surgeon (CS) in Kishoreganj Dr. Mujibur Rahman visited Hossionpur Upazila health complex. Residential Medical officer (RMO) in Hossainpur Health Complex Dr. Absullah -al-Shamim said the newborn weighed about 2.5 kg. Hospital authorities are initially bearing their costs.
Social Service officer in Hossionpur Ehsanul Haque said, “If anyone wants to adopt this child, they will be assisted in handing over the child according to the appropriate law.” If no interested person is found, arrangements will be made for rearing at Chhotamani Nibas through the Department of Social Services.
